NSW Likely to Escape Report Card Penalty (SMH)

The Federal Government is unlikely to strip NSW of up to $3.7 billion in funding, despite its failure to force all schools to comply with mandatory student reporting requirements.

Spare some thoughts for our teaching colleagues in Afghanistan - over the past year insurgents have killed twenty educators, including a principal and one of his office workers, and burnt more than a dozen of Ghazni's (Afghanistan) schools. Taliban threats have shut down at least 13 more, forcing their students to study in homes and mosques.

With over 100 players registered for the 2006 Chalk 'n' Talk Cup on Friday 22nd December, team registrations have been closed for the first time in the history of this competition.

- Somewhere PS for iWeb

Many schools have used the Somewhere PS template as a starting point for their school intranets. Previously this template was edited using Mozilla, FrontPage or DreamWeaver. This new incarnation has been re-created in iWeb and includes a template Domain file that can be downloaded for instant editing in iWeb.

While we are talking about free and open source application software (below), let's not forget the free and open source OS possibilities. Ubuntu is described as "Linux for Human Beings"! Mac and PC versions available. (Definitely one for the techno-tinkerers though!)
