This page provides links to resources for, and information about, creating websites
using online software applications accessed through a web browser.

Background

Web 2.0 technology (also known as the Read/Write Web) has made web publishing much more accessible for people who have no web-publishing experience. You don't need any specialised software, other than a compatible browser and an Internet connection, and you don't need to organise hosting, domain registration, etc.

The Web 2.0 site provides the publishing application and the hosting space, usually for free. To publish a web page, you just sign-on and start typing, then click the Publish button.

Weblogs (Blogs) were the first examples of the use of this technology, but many other providers, including Google, are moving into this field to provide more than just simple web diaries - full office applications are also being delivered through the Web 2.0 technology.

Web 2.0 is ideal for travellers and other casual web publishers, as the sites containing their documents and photos, along with the software they need to edit these files, are stored on a remote server, accessible and editable from anywhere on the net - even using hand-held devices.
