Add an RSS Icon in Browsers

So, you have added an RSS feed to your web site, but when visiting the page in a browser there is no recognition that the page contains an RSS feed.

Safari, for example, should display an RSS icon in the URL window:
Safari RSS icon

As should Firefox:
Firefox RSS icon

Internet Explorer displays an RSS icon in the toolbar:
RSS icon for Explorer

To make this icon appear in browsers when people visit your web page, the browser needs to be aware that an RSS feed exists on the page. To make this happen you will need to insert the following text in the html header of your web page:

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="your rss feed title" href="http://your-rss-feed-address" />
