As schools have gained access to a wider range of ICT resources,
data networks have become more extensive in schools. These data networks have also become more critical to the functioning of the school administration.
The following pages are designed to provide a simple overview of data
networks and their application in schools, particularly for the classroom teacher who suddenly finds themselves catapulted into the position of school ICT manager!
When it comes to installing new data cabling, there are a number of safety and performance considerations which
make it imperative to use a licensed data cabling installer for the
installation of a school data network.
It is a legal requirement (in Australia) that data
network cabling which is able to be connected to external network
lines, including telephone lines, be installed by an Austel certified tradesman.
In NSW public schools, network installations should be installed to government
specifications, by registered government contractors. -
