Servers & Network

File Servers - Overview

A file server is a computer that stores files created by people on your network, and is accessible by all computers on the school network. It is a "common" sharing area on the school network.

In reality, most school servers undertake a variety of additional functions - storing files, managing printing, serving intranet pages, plus controlling DHCP, DNS, etc.

These pages provide some links to resources that may be useful for school computer co-ordinators and support staff who are responsible for maintaining school file servers.
