How to Change Win XP Ownership

If you buy a second hand computer with XP pre-installed (with all the correct licensing of course), you can change the "ownership" of the computer by editing the registry...

  1. Click Start > Run

  2. Type regedit in the Run entry field and click OK.

  3. Navigate to:
    HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

  4. In the right panel, double click the RegisteredOwner field.
Change the name to your name.

  5. Click OK .

  6. In the right panel, double click RegisteredOrganization

  7. Change the name to Home, etc.
You can also just leave this field blank.

  8. Exit regedit and reboot the computer.
