If you buy a second hand computer with XP pre-installed (with all the correct licensing of course), you can change the "ownership" of the computer by editing the registry...
- Click Start > Run
- Type regedit in the Run entry field and click OK.
- Navigate to:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
- In the right panel, double click the RegisteredOwner field.
Change the name to your name.
- Click OK .
- In the right panel, double click RegisteredOrganization
- Change the name to Home, etc.
You can also just leave this field blank.
- Exit regedit and reboot the computer.
